What to Wear and Bring to Hot Yoga: A Simple Packing List
The short answer
For hot yoga, wear light, breathable, moisture-wicking clothes that stay in place, and bring a large towel, a water bottle, and a change of clothes. At Sathya Hot Yoga & Wellness in Suwanee, GA, lockers and hot showers make it easy to freshen up afterward.
You do not need a closet full of gear for hot yoga. A few smart choices keep you comfortable in a warm room, and the rest is optional. Here is what to wear and what to bring.
What should I wear to hot yoga?
Choose clothes that are light, stretchy, and quick to dry. You will sweat, so fabric matters more than brand.
- Moisture-wicking fabrics. Athletic blends move sweat away from the skin.
- Close-fitting or sleeveless tops. Loose shirts slide down when you bend forward.
- Shorts or fitted leggings. Pick whatever stays put in a forward fold.
- A supportive layer. A sports bra or fitted undershirt helps you move without adjusting.
Many people find that cotton gets heavy and clingy once it is soaked. That is a personal call, but if you are unsure, go with athletic fabric.
What should men wear?
Men often do well with lightweight athletic shorts and a breathable tank or fitted tee. Shorts with a built-in liner stay put in poses like downward dog. Some guys go shirtless, which is fine as long as it fits the studio's rules, so check with the front desk first.

What should I bring to the studio?
Here is the short list for your first class.
- A large towel for your mat. It adds grip when things get slippery.
- A small towel. Handy for your face and hands.
- A filled water bottle. Keep it at the edge of your mat.
- A change of clothes. You will want something dry afterward.
- A bag for wet clothes. Keeps the rest of your things clean.
If you do not own a mat, ask the front desk at Sathya Hot Yoga & Wellness when you book. We are at 4320 Suwanee Dam Rd in Suwanee, Georgia, and the team can help you get set up.
What about the extras worth packing?
Not required, but nice to have.
- A hair tie or headband, since sweat plus loose hair gets annoying fast
- Flip flops or slides for walking around the studio
- Deodorant and a small brush or comb
- A refillable bottle with a little electrolyte mix, if you like
- A face cloth for the shower or sauna
What should I leave at home?
A few things are better left in the car or at home.
- Heavy jewelry that can slide or snag
- Strong perfume or body spray, since scents feel stronger in a warm room
- Your phone, if you can. The room is for quiet.
- Thick socks or shoes, which are not worn on the mat
Do I need special yoga socks or gloves?
No. Most people practice barefoot. Grip socks and gloves exist, but they are not needed for a first class. A good towel on top of the mat does the job for most people.
Can I shower and change after class?
Yes. Sathya has lockers and hot showers, so you can leave feeling fresh. Bring your own toiletries, a clean towel, and a bag for damp clothes.
If you want to stretch the reset a little longer, our cedar sauna and cold plunge are available as an add-on. The intro offer with classes plus sauna and cold plunge is $79 for two weeks, which is $30 more than the classes-only $49 option. See the pricing section for details.
How early should I arrive?
Plan on 15 minutes before class. You can check in, put your things in a locker, and get your towel and water set up. Rushing into a warm room makes the first few minutes harder.

How do I keep my gear fresh?
Hang your towel and clothes to dry as soon as you get home. Do not leave a wet bag sitting in the car. Wash your yoga towel after every class, since sweat and warmth are a perfect match for odor. A simple habit helps: keep a small yoga bag packed by the door, with a fresh towel and a spare hair tie, so you can grab it and go. That one step makes it much easier to show up on busy days.
FAQ
Questions people ask
Can I wear a cotton t-shirt to hot yoga?
You can, but cotton holds sweat and gets heavy. Many people feel more comfortable in light, moisture-wicking fabric that dries faster and stays put during poses.
Do I really need a towel for hot yoga?
A towel helps a lot. It adds grip on your mat when you sweat, and it lets you wipe your face and hands. Most people bring one large towel and one small one.
Should I wear shoes or socks in the studio?
Most people practice barefoot on the mat. Bring flip flops or slides for walking around the studio, and leave shoes in your locker or at the front.
Does Sathya have showers and lockers?
Yes. Sathya has lockers and hot showers in Suwanee, so you can freshen up after class. Bring your own toiletries, a dry towel, and a bag for wet clothes.
